Recent Buys

Hello,

I didn't wait long.

With the market opening up, there are many opportunities to choose from.

Therefore, it is important to have a plan on what to buy.

Based on my recent screen for July (NOV, EMR, BAX, IVZ, WMT, CAT, UNP & IBM), I increased my portfolio with the following companies.

TickerPriceNumber of SharesDividendEst Forward Div
EMR56.15301.8856.40
IVZ37.76451.0848.60
TROW77.56222.0845.76
WMT71.26251.9649.00

Mostly, I wanted to average down on my existing positions. IVZ is a new position - riskier - but with excellent growth potentials.

You can check out my analyses:
This gives me an additional ~$200 of forward dividends. Closer to my goal.

Also, I gained a new company today, Baxalta (BXLT) from the BAX spinoff. However, it didn't show up in my brokerage yet...

Long EMR, IVZ, TROW, WMT, BAX, CAT, UNP, and now BXLT

  1. I like the buys! I will need to add EMR to my watchlist. That one has been popping up a lot lately. Looks nice.

    1. Adam, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I decided to stick with my plan of averaging down and to spread out my portfolio. I was tempted with JNJ and KO - but I didn't want to overbuild these positions. Hopefully, the market will open up again.

    1. R2R,
EMR is a solid company (>50 years dividend growth is hard to beat), so it is good to be able to build up and add more positions.
      Thanks for visiting!

    1. Rich,
Thanks for your comment. Yes - it is good when the market dips and you can make your capital work harder. WMT is looking good now.

  5. Some solid buys there. I like the EMR buy the most followed by TROW. You sure didn't waste time in July putting that money to work. You just set yourself up for a nice quarter going forward with those extra dividends. Thanks for sharing.

    1. DivHut,
Thanks for comments. You are right. The key is dividends income. If the companies I buy stay for the duration, then I can't resist buying them at lower prices. However, I need to mindful not to over expose in any one company or sector, which is why your analyses on Canadian banks or REITs are very useful to me.

  7. I looking to buy some energy stocks, particularly those in the oil industry. Any suggestions?

  8. Tony,
Unfortunately, I cannot give specific investment advice since I do not know your risk tolerance and investment goals. Moreover, I am not a licensed adviser. Based on my profile, investment goals and portfolio, I am currently heavy on XOM which I need to diversify. I would run my screen (eg growth and yield potentials, Quality ratings etc) with the industry and sector with energy. Next, I would look at the top 3-5 to do a more detailed analysis. Eg stability of ROE, EPS, valuation, FCF coverage etc. if the quality is there, and the price is good, I would normally buy.
The last time I looked, RDS.b and NOV were on the top of my list.
