September Screen

It's almost the end of August - which means that it is time for my September Screen.

There was a problem with Yahoo Key Stats for 5 yr Average Yield this month, so I used Guru Focus’ 10 Median Yield instead.

  • Yield > 2.0%
  • Yield/10 Median Yield > 1.35
  • Chowder > 8
  • PE/5 Median PE < 1.0

The screen is looking for companies with higher than average yields and lower than average P/E, with reasonable dividend yields and growth (with Chowder).

Next, I filtered with M* Credit Rating with BBB+ or more as well as companies with no debt.

As always, this is a starting point of further research. There are some great companies on the list: ADM, EV, CMI are companies that I will spend some time researching. Others already in my portfolio include CAT, DOV, EMR, IVZ, NOV, UNP, UTX and TROW.

IVZ, DOV, UTX and NOV have single positions in my portfolio, so I look forward to adding to these positions.

Of course, with the market volatility, I am on the lookout of the usual suspects (MMM, JNJ etc).

Let me know what you think of my September Screen.

  1. Thanks for the screen! Just looked up a few of these. I am really liking EV from this list. I need to do more research. Hopefully I have time to make a post about it.

  2. Adam,
    Thanks for your comments.
I just ran EV through my criteria spreadsheet. In general, a very good company. The EPS growth is growing but slow in the last few years, but that's expected for a company with >30 years div growth. The FCF since 2014 is not covering the dividends, but I think it won't impact future payouts. Chowder is around 11% -again within range. Everything else is good. Price wise, it is within midpoint range (38 +/- 5). They did miss some recent estimates - but that's AUMs in general.

I will add this to my watch list for future addition to my portfolio.
